Haunted houses use actors to scare customers. It’s important to keep in mind that touching or insulting these performers is not acceptable and may lead to being removed from the property without a refund.
Note that it is crucial not to point out actors as this will undermine their efforts and can even pose risks to other guests.
Don’t Smoke
Smoking will taint everyone’s experience and may even result in fires or injuries, making bringing your own lighter unwise. In addition, smoking prior to entering a haunted house may alter how you react to scares, making you more easily startled by them.
Haunted houses often use dry ice and fog machines to create the creepy atmosphere, yet smoking in these environments could compromise their air quality and cause you to become sick or even faint.
Avoid smoking, drinking and drugs prior to visiting a haunted house for various reasons. Young children could be present and could see you behaving recklessly while under the influence. Furthermore, drinking may cause falls or trips which cause injury that will subsequently ruin everyone’s experience of the haunted house and spoil its fun for all involved.
Don’t Touch
Visitors entering a haunted house may come across potential trip hazards such as uneven flooring or loose rugs that pose potential trip hazards for their safety, so all haunted houses should provide appropriate warning signs and verbal alerts in order to protect their visitors and prevent injuries.
As well, visitors to haunted houses are advised not to touch anything inside. Touching actors could disrupt their character and reduce scare power; touching props could cause visitors to suffer injuries.
Of course, haunted houses exist to scare guests; however, actors must always be treated with the utmost respect. Actors are being paid to perform this job and should be treated as such; getting angry with or making threats towards them can ruin everyone’s experience; treating actors in an arrogant or disrespectful way will ruin it further. Also avoid asking actors for their contact info or making inappropriate remarks – doing either will likely result in them leaving without warning!
Don’t Run
Visitors who enter a haunted house and start running through it could get injured, damage the props and sets or bump into each other causing collisions and possible falls. Running can also pose risks to everyone else in the attraction as people will bump into each other and possibly fall over.
If you enter a haunted house with someone, make sure they can hold onto you to help calm your nerves if needed and experience the scares more comfortably and enjoy themselves more fully. Doing this may increase both fun and fear factor of this experience!
If you recognize an actor at the haunted house as someone you know outside the attraction, refrain from calling them out by name as this can ruin the thrill for other patrons while potentially frightening those unfamiliar with them.
Don’t Wear Masks
At haunted houses, there is often a no-touch policy in effect, and guests should be prepared to remove masks if asked by an actor.
Regular rehearsals help actors familiarize themselves with both their characters and the layout of the haunt, so that they can focus on timing and creating effective scares. Furthermore, actors have an opportunity to offer feedback and suggestions that can help the attraction evolve year by year.
Haunted houses feature various themes and scare tactics, so it’s essential that visitors do their research on each attraction prior to visiting. Doing this helps establish personal boundaries for visitors as well as allow them to voice any distress they experience from an attraction theme or scare tactic.
Many haunted houses feature timed ticketing systems, so it is crucial to arrive before your window of entry and remain patient while waiting your turn. While waiting, guests should keep noise levels down while being respectful towards others in line; cursing or making inappropriate comments are not permitted as this can ruin everyone’s experience.
