3. The Convent of St Agnes in Prague

One of the earliest Gothic buildings in Prague, The Convent of St Agnes was constructed in 1231 and settled upon by nuns and Franciscan friars two years later. Over time it became an important spiritual center and final resting place of many Czech kings and queens.

It stands as an outstanding example of Gothic architecture from this era and remains one of the best preserved monasteries today. On its first floor is housed the National Gallery’s collection of medieval art from Bohemia and Central Europe while on the upper floors there remain original rooms that once served as part of a monastery.

4. The Island of the Dolls in Mexico

Boat tours through Xochimilco south of Mexico City take visitors past pelicans and kingfishers before passing over an island known as la Isla de las Munecas (or Doll Island), home to thousands of decomposing dolls that local legend suggests are haunted by the spirit of a little girl who died under mysterious circumstances in 1950.

Fearing retaliation from her spirit, Don Julian Santana Barrera decided to placate it by hanging dolls across his island home for 50 years until his death in 2001. He kept adding more and more dolls until eventually his collection reached 1,000 items.

The Island of the Dolls has become a tourist attraction where visitors can wander among thousands of dolls that hang from trees and boats moored to it. Some dolls are small while others can reach several feet high – many have been decapitated or altered in some way; it has even been reported that these mysterious figures sometimes whisper and move their limbs on their own at night!
