Third Bridge
Colorado is known for its stunning outdoor beauty, but there’s also a dark side to the Centennial State. It’s home to a number of haunted places that are sure to give you goosebumps.
Third Bridge is an overpass on County Line Road in a rural area that’s been the subject of several creepy legends. There are reports of a ghost girl, phantom wrecked cars, and even stories of possession.
Molly Brown, the Unsinkable Lady, is said to haunt the Molly Brown House along with her husband JJ and daughter Catherine Ellen. Guests have reported seeing apparitions and hearing the sound of Indian drums on a still, moonlit night.
The Molly Brown House
The Unsinkable Molly Brown House is a famous historical home that serves as a museum and educational center. Its tours explore Brown’s life and pioneering efforts in the women’s suffrage movement, historic preservation, and children’s literacy.
Margaret Tobin Brown aspired to be part of Denver society and built this lavish turn-of-the-century mansion. After her husband struck it rich in mining in Leadville she became a prominent figure in the local suffrage movement.
The house was saved from demolition in 1970 by Historic Denver, Inc and restored. Over the years visitors have reported spooky occurrences such as hearing footsteps, seeing apparitions and smelling phantom cigar smoke.
Hotel Colorado
From Glenwood Springs’ sprawling Hotel Colorado to Durango’s opulent Strater, Colorado is replete with old hotels that have had their fair share of paranormal experiences. Guests have reported elevators moving on their own, the scent of cigar smoke in the hallways, and the sound of disembodied screaming.
Many of these spirits are said to haunt the Hotel Colorado, which is now a historic landmark and museum. The hotel is also famous for inspiring Stephan King’s book, “The Shining.” One of the most active spirits at the Hotel Colorado is known as Bobbie, who hangs out in the dining room during lunch and dinner. She likes to mess with male visitors, turning faucets on and off and putting lights on and off.
