Haunted houses are buildings where supernatural phenomena is believed to take place. These include strange sounds, feelings of being watched or touched and even ghostly appearances. Haunting can also occur due to carbon monoxide gas leakage from gas-burning appliances causing problems that exacerbate it further.

1. Zavalla Jail
Zavalla Jail provides many services to its local community. It houses both felonious and misdemeanor offenders and can accommodate up to 250 individuals at a time. Furthermore, this detention center also offers alternatives to jail such as work release programs and house arrest.
The facility’s inmate search portal includes mugshots, booking numbers, and other pertinent details about inmates who may be available online for booking at that time. Date and time filters allow inmates to easily filter information as needed. They can also transfer money between inmates in order to purchase commissary items.
2. Zavalla Cafe
This restaurant looks straight out of a Larry McMurtry novel, complete with its wooden floor and creaky screen door on springs. Rumor has it that an unknown ghostly proprietor often plays mischievous tricks on customers!
Hudson and Zavalla volunteer fire departments will both host haunted houses this Halloween weekend at their respective fire stations, known as Total Insanity for Hudson and All 3 for Zavalla respectively, respectively. Tickets cost $10 for one attraction or can be purchased for all three for just $18 to support each fire department directly. Proceeds go toward fundraising efforts.
3. Zavalla Courthouse
The Zavalla Courthouse features a two-story building with offices downstairs and a courtroom upstairs, constructed with burnt bricks produced from Leona River soil. Located in Angelina County’s southeastern region near Sam Rayburn Lake.
Courthouses are government institutions where legal disputes are arbitrated according to established procedures. Criminal courts hear cases brought by the government against defendants; civil courts arbitrate disagreements that cannot be settled independently by their owners.
4. Zavalla Hotel

5. Killough Monument
Killough Massacre occurred outside Jacksonville on County Road 3411 on October 5th 1838 and caused the expulsion of Cherokee nation from Texas.
Work Projects Administration built this stone obelisk in the 1930s as part of their mark on this historic site, which is believed to be haunted. Hudson and Zavalla volunteer fire departments will host a haunted house event for charity over Halloween weekend for $7 per event, or all three attractions combined at $18 for tickets.
6. Zavalla Plantation
Secluded parcel surrounded on three sides by National Forest land is perfect for hunting & timber investments, near Zavalla & Sam Rayburn lakes with easy access to Highway 63.
Zavalla, located 25 miles southeast of Lufkin in Angelina County, Texas was named after Lorenzo de Zavala – one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence – when its population surged due to Sam Rayburn Lake development. Zavalla became an incorporated city in 1975 as population expansion led to an establishment of local government led by C.M. Cryer as its inaugural Mayor.
7. Zavalla University
Zavalla University is a high school located in Zavalla, Texas that is part of the Zavalla Independent School District. According to state required tests results and graduation rate statistics it ranks 1st overall within Texas and 11th nationally in terms of academic rigor and course difficulty.
Hudson and Zavalla volunteer fire departments will both host haunted houses this Halloween. Hudson Fire Station’s event, known as Total Insanity Haunt Park, features three attractions at $10 each or can be purchased for the whole set at an inclusive ticket price of $18 for all three attractions.
9. Zavalla Cemetery
Zavalla, Texas lies 25 miles southeast of Lufkin in Angelina County at SH69/SR63 and was established in 1900. It takes its name from an impresario grant given to Lorenzo de Zavala as part of an impresario grant agreement.
John was a member of AARP and Masonic Lodge #1263. Additionally, he was active with Angelina 4-H Club, fishing, hunting, Doo-Wop music, oldies music and tending his dogs.
