Kronenhalle
This restaurant embodies Zurich’s vibrant artistic and gastronomic legacy; since 1924 it has been one of Switzerland’s most beloved establishments, drawing artists, writers, musicians and businesspeople together as one. Set within a five-story Biedermeier building it could pass for any ordinary commercial structure, except for its six gold crowns adorning each of its first-floor windows and the incredible art collection which fills every inch.
Gustav Zumsteg was an avid art collector when he founded Kronenhalle in 1945, including many of his pieces in its decor and creating an irresistibly inviting space where people such as Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, James Joyce, Max Frisch and Friedrich Durrenmatt dined and signed their guest books.
Food at this acclaimed establishment is legendary as its ambience. The menu reflects Switzerland’s long culinary heritage, while the wine list showcases selections from all across Europe chosen specifically to accompany each course. Diners may opt for traditional dishes such as Zurcher Geschnetzeltes with mushroom sauce served alongside rosti or more novel fare such as Graubunden lamb or ravioli with lemon peel for dinner.
Warm and welcoming ambience characterized by white linen tablecloths and staff in starched white jackets is created by using a trolley for serving soup, herring and other foods from the kitchen to side tables where guests can dine comfortably.
