Hutongs are traditional alleyways where families live communally for generations, so entering this palatial restaurant recently in midtown’s Bloomberg building feels either like the triumph of Chinese haute cuisine in one of the world’s preeminent food capitals or like returning to unabashed decadence. Formerly home to Le Cirque, its space now evokes an Art Deco cathedral with white mausoleum marble floors and chandeliers resembling alien gods.
