Raleigh, North Carolina is filled with haunted houses and ghostly tales, such as those associated with The Devil’s Tramping Ground; an area thought to be used by Satan himself for manifestation.
Queens University is widely considered haunted, including by the ghost of a student who committed suicide here. Students have reported hearing knocking noises and doors opening and closing on their own.
Mordecai House
Mordecai House is one of Raleigh’s top attractions and historical landmarks. Boasting thousands of artifacts dating back centuries, you can take tours through this house to learn more about its significance and history in Raleigh.
Joel Lane was a prominent local figure known as the “Father of Raleigh.” His daughter Margaret married Moses Mordecai who then inherited the property and hired State Architect William Nichols to enlarge and transform it into a Greek Revival mansion.

Patterson-Noble-Baker House
The Patterson-Noble-Baker House in Graham County was first constructed in 1820. Once owned by Alden Patterson, an influential politician who established Franklin Courier newspaper.
Paranormal enthusiasts have reported recording voices on EVP recorders here. Additionally, this house may also be haunted by Blackbeard’s wife whose spirit may haunt it.
Noble Baker, Maddison Bloxham, Alabama Lambs, Corryn Canell, Jaelyn Stevens, Joon Waritthaporn, Madison James and Kaleigh Weber participated in this production directed by JoAnne McCoy. Costume designs by local artists – Nancy Blake – completed the cast.
Banshee’s Mill
Dave Warner operated a mill on Edgecombe County’s Tar River during Colonial times. During the Revolutionary War, he supplied supplies to new US militia. Unfortunately, Redcoats became dissatisfied with his anti-British activities and chained and threw him into the river; afterward, an apparition known as “the banshee” began haunting this region by wail wailing and shrieking around him.
Carrie meets Rabbit, who turns out to be her biological father. After being exposed, a mysterious protagonist returns under an assumed identity to Banshee and takes control of its sheriff office.
Kurt Bunker, an MMA prizefighter from Chicago, arrives in Banshee and brutally beats and rapes a cocktail waitress before convincing Lucas to hire him anyway.
The Carolina Inn
Located directly across from UNC, The Carolina Inn is a favorite among alumni, students and locals. This 185-room hotel is well known for its traditional southern charm and classic elegance as well as being home to an excellent restaurant.
