The Whispers Estate in Mitchell is said to be haunted by Alexander Hannah, its original owner. Several visitors have reported encountering ghostly figures, whining noises and electrical devices switching on and off by themselves.
Slippery Noodle Inn
Slippery Noodle Inn is famous for its music, offering live local, regional, and national blues bands every night of the week. Additionally, this bar provides a game room as well as 12 big screen televisions for entertainment.
The bar has been around since 1850s and served as an underground railroad stop. Customers have reported encountering ghosts of both slaves and prostitutes who escaped, as well as “Caretaker”, an unseen spirit wearing overalls who has been seen in the basement.
Slippery Noodle Inn was famously frequented by outlaw John Dillinger and featured prominently in the film Public Enemies. Legend has it that it may also be haunted by a mysterious woman believed to have been killed there.

This mansion now forms part of Marian University, but legend says that it is haunted by a young girl who drowned in its basement pool. Additionally, guests have reported smelling cherry tobacco and hearing disembodied voices within its walls.

Visitors have reported hearing cries from within both its basement and attic spaces as well as objects moving and disappearing around them; its library room has even seen furniture rearrange itself entirely!
The Story Inn, situated on the outskirts of Brown County State Park, is the sole remaining structure from Story, an old mining town, which sits at its edge. Perhaps best known is a ghost known as The Blue Lady who can often be found lurking around. Her presence can often be detected when turning on blue lights in any of the rooms above the restaurant and by an aroma of cherry tobacco in one of them.
