RAW provides elegant degustation experiences in its classy restaurant decorated with flowing pinewood. Chef Chiang’s French-style haute cuisine incorporates Taiwanese ingredients for maximum flavour.
Modern Taiwanese cuisine at Michelin-level standards. Exotic flavors make the cuisine truly memorable, so reservations are highly recommended and it is just a short walk from Taipei City.
Xiaolizi Rice Porridge
Xiaolizi is an energetic self-service restaurant that specializes in rice porridge, seafood and meat dishes. Boasting seating on both floors for comfort, this eatery provides the ideal place to sample different Taiwanese cuisines. Their large menu offers an all-you-can-eat option where customers simply point at whatever item they would like to eat!
At this restaurant, the star attraction is their Chinese yams rice porridge. Prepared using three ingredients, this nutritious meal provides essential micro-nutrients, proteins and carbohydrates, helping relieve fatigue while improving energy levels and supporting immune health.
Notable at the restaurant is its wood-fired oven, which adds authentic flavor to the imported steaks that melt-in-your-mouth perfectly. Set menu options at around NT$1,500 include 6oz USDA Black Angus top cap steak along with salad, soup and roasted vegetables; plus wines available from an extensive list.
Liu Shandong Beef Noodles
Taipei is a foodie city that takes pride in both its cuisine and night markets. A trip to either Shilin or Raohe night market should be on every visitor’s agenda when visiting Taiwan’s capital; you will find an assortment of delectable treats here – especially oyster omelettes, which can be found throughout Taiwan’s night markets.
As night markets feature many food stalls offering different varieties, it may be wise to travel with someone if you wish to sample as many dishes as possible. Otherwise, restaurants provide great ways to sample everything on offer at these markets.
There are numerous places in Taiwan where one can enjoy beef noodles, each offering their own distinct style. Liu Shandong Beef Noodles stands out as an exceptional restaurant offering both clear and braised soup varieties; their award-winning broth combines ingredients such as beef innards with medicinal herbal elements for maximum flavour!
Da Wan Shao Rou Da-wan
This stall offers authentic Taiwanese hotpot, where thinly-sliced meats, vegetables and tofu are cooked in a steaming pot at the table. Select from various broth options and customize your experience further by choosing your dipping sauces of choice!
Beef Noodle Soup at this restaurant is a beloved local favorite, boasting premium cuts simmered in an aromatic broth for maximum comfort food comfort. Many locals fondly recall its flavors when reminding themselves of grandma’s cooking!
Bubble tea is an iconic local treat and one that can be enjoyed any time of the day, anytime of day! Boasting varieties like milk pudding and chewy tapioca pearls, there are endless variations available from recommended chains like 50 Lan or Chun Shui Tang for newcomers to this beverage.
Stinky tofu is a favorite snack among both locals and visitors to Taiwan, and this stall serves a steamed version with sweet Taiwanese basil that doesn’t quite measure up to its name.
Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice
Every night in Taipei’s vibrant night markets, hot pot restaurants and beef noodle soup shops, residents enjoy delectable Taiwanese food — an irresistibly flavorful combination of sweet sugar, spice and deep umami–that have become staples throughout its many centuries-old history.
Lu rou fan (braised pork belly rice) is one of Taiwanese locals’ favorite comfort dishes – second only to beef noodle soup! Nestled deep within Ximending lies this charming restaurant which boasts some of the best braised pork rice available.
Jin Feng’s decor is far from fancy, with a simple kitchen in one corner and an open dining room full of small tables in another corner. Expect long lines during lunch and dinner hours but these generally move quickly; their signature gourmet pineapple cakes make excellent souvenirs to take back home with you!
Logy
Just one year since opening, restaurant logy (styled with lower case letters) has already earned two Michelin stars and been recognized on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant list as well as being a go-to location among young people.
Chef Ryogo Tahara hails from Hokkaido and is well equipped to lead this kitchen successfully. Having worked alongside Hiroyasu Kawate at Tokyo’s two-star Florilege, where he became his right-hand man has given him an innate understanding of natural ingredients as well as an unwavering belief in understanding food better by the public.
Logy’s dishes are creative, well-balanced and won’t weigh down your stomach. Their signature dish, the Mud Crab Chawanmushi is exceptional: an egg custard filled with picked mud crab served alongside angelica Dang Gui ice cream to add an herbal aroma and flavour. Desserts were tasty but I would like to see more use of Taiwanese ingredients in them.
