Haunted Places in Texas

Texas boasts an extensive history and numerous paranormal incidents, providing plenty of spine-chilling stories. Be it ghostly hitchhikers, floating orbs, or disappearing footprints; Texas offers something terrifying!

San Antonio’s Menger Hotel is said to be haunted by Teddy Roosevelt. However, few dare stay in Room 505 because it supposedly features the presence of an unsettled maid that roams freely through its hallways.

The Alamo

As one of Texas’s premier tourist spots, The Alamo should not be missed by any visitor to Texas. Yet its historic site may also harbour dark secrets and be haunted by spirits.

Legend has it that Mexican General Santa Anna, who led forces that laid siege to the Alamo, still wanders its grounds with much regret and remorse even into eternity.

Davy Crockett can often be seen here, while many have also reported seeing legendary actor John Wayne.

The Big Thicket

The Big Thicket is both one place and many: Eastern deciduous forests, Southwestern deserts, and Southern swamps are crammed together into one compact region, like all of nature converged here and crammed itself into it like an overwhelming tide.

Since the last glacial period, plant and animal species from different biomes have settled within its boundaries. Today, The Big Thicket supports an incredible number of species; for instance 84 tree species alone as well as four types of carnivorous plants are known to inhabit its shores.

The Big Thicket offers its greatest connection to solo travelers, yet can also speak to those traveling in groups. Legend has it that its Nude Man appears at night on dirt roads in its vicinity.

Fort Goliad

Texas is a sprawling and expansive state, so it should come as no surprise that ghostly spirits haunt it. Be it exploring the USS Lexington, conversing with spirits aboard hotel rooms in Galveston or crossing Goatman’s Bridge; ghostly presences can be found almost anywhere across its expansive territory.

This fort was the site of an intense battle during the Texas Revolution and its most notorious massacre, Goliad Massacre, where several Texan soldiers died. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, women weeping loudly and the smell of blood; strange occurrences have included doors opening and closing without anyone touching them and faucets turning themselves on automatically – as well as hearing children’s voices heard throughout.

The Driskill Hotel

The Driskill Hotel holds a lot of history. It has hosted high society events and important political figures like LBJ, while guests claim they’ve seen ghostly apparitions reminiscent of power couples walking the halls.

A young girl, believed to be the daughter of a Senator, died tragically when she attempted to skip up a staircase with her ball before tripping and falling down, dying instantly. Some have reported hearing the sound of the ball still being bounced near where it fell to its death.

On the fifth floor now hangs a portrait of Samantha Houston which some claim causes their feet to tingle with excitement when looking at it.

The Dallas Zoo

Though seemingly pleasant at first glance, the Dallas Zoo can also be home to some spooky spirits. Alice Littlefield is perhaps best-known as one of these spirits; her presence has been felt by visitors and staff alike, often including an unexplainable smell of cigars!

Just when Halloween seemed creepier than ever before, we discovered a tombstone for an extraterrestrial soul in Texas! Who would have thought?

The Emily Morgan Hotel

At the Emily Morgan Hotel, guests may experience paranormal activity like unexplained noises and movements of objects on their own. Built in gothic revival style and situated adjacent to Alamo where 600 Texas soldiers died fighting for freedom in 1836-1796, guests may witness these strange happenings first-hand.

The seventh floor of this hotel used to serve as a psychiatric ward and is said to be haunted. Visitors have reported hearing an unseen bride screaming and shuddering while sleeping in their beds.

San Antonio has earned its place among America’s most haunted cities thanks to the bloody battle at the Alamo and numerous untimely deaths that occurred there. Some ghostly spirits reside within Emily Morgan Hotel and is popular with ghost hunters and history lovers.
