They must be aged 21 or have parental approval if between 18-20. In addition, a background check, screening via Facebook, Facetime, phone or in person, physical exam and signing a 40-page waiver as part of the application process must also be passed successfully and proof that health insurance exists before their visit can take place.
Russ McKamey, who operates this experience, claims it to be a revolutionary advancement of interactive survival horror theatre. According to his site, this experience is tailored to each participant’s fears and can last up to 10 hours – though its critics refer to it as torture chamber due to multiple screenings used to find weak participants who can be exploited into injuries or even death; those who have visited reported bruises, cuts, bug bites and psychological trauma as a result.
Rules
Most haunted houses require participants to sign waivers, wear costumes and comply with rules such as no touching. Some haunted houses go further; for instance, the McKamey Manor in Summertown and Huntsville requires visitors to watch two hours of video, sign a 40-page waiver agreement, create their own safe word, and pass physical tests before entering.
Participants in the attraction are prohibited from smoking, drinking alcohol or eating while at the attraction; swearing and nudity are also strictly forbidden. Though these restrictions don’t make the experience any less scary, they’re meant to protect both actors and participants alike.

Furthermore, unlike most haunted house operators’s who permit escape routes via safe words (ie “safe word”) to escape an event, this haunted house’s unique rule does not permit any such “escape”. Therefore fighting back is forbidden and will result in immediate expulsion from its haunted house.
