The Most Haunted Places in Texas

Texas offers many spine-chilling stories. From haunted hotels to creepy warehouses, there are numerous places in Texas filled with paranormal history and terror.

The Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin is said to be haunted by its former owner. Guests have reported being followed around and feeling an unseen presence watching from within its walls.

Driscoll Hotel

Yelp recently recognized the Driskill Hotel as one of the state’s most haunted locations based on several criteria, including reviews that mention ghostly activity.

Cattle baron Jesse Lincoln Driskill established his luxurious hotel in 1886. Unfortunately, four years later he passed away but many believe his spirit still wanders its halls, with guests and staff reporting smelling cigar smoke, hearing footsteps outside, or feeling someone’s touch through walls and doorways.

An amused ghost girl and suave cowboy spirit have also been reported haunting the hotel, according to legend. Legend states that four-year-old girl fell from its grand staircase, killing herself upon landing, and her ghost can reportedly still be heard playing ball down its steps. Another ghost may include that of an unhappily married bride who committed suicide by hanging herself. According to this theory, her ghost can often be found roaming around wearing her wedding gown.

Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University boasts one of the state’s largest enrollments and its rich military heritage is said to create many ghostly sightings across campus – especially at Stafford Hall where students report seeing a ghost hanging in its bell tower.

The Driskill Hotel, built in Austin in 1886, is said to be haunted. Visitors have reported hearing strange noises, feeling watched over or doors slamming shut on their own.

The USS Lexington is a World War II battleship moored at Corpus Christi that is often referred to as the “Blue Ghost.” Legend has it that its historic decks are home to ghostly figures including an engine room operator and even the spirit of a child who attempted suicide by hanging themselves.

The Menger Hotel

Texas offers many exciting things to see and do, as well as some truly terrifying places. From abandoned hospitals to old hotels, Texas contains numerous haunted sites where spirits still reside on earthly plane.

Many visitors have reported witnessing ghostly apparitions at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio. One popular haunting is Sallie White, who was murdered here by her husband. Her ghost can often be found folding laundry and carrying linens around. Her presence has also been observed wearing maid uniform.

Paranormal activity at the hotel includes doors opening and closing by themselves, noises heard in empty rooms, and sightings of its original founder William Menger who can often be found sitting at his favorite spot in the original bar and raising his glass! Today it is owned by Moody family.

Hill House

Hill House in Mineral Wells tops many lists as Texas’s most haunted place. A large home, it has been utilized as various uses over the years including being used as a bordello, speakeasy and small apartments – it has even been visited by paranormal investigators! Many believe its spirits occupy this home which has attracted numerous paranormal investigators for investigations.

The owners of this property have reported items being thrown at them and over 600 scratches on overnight guests who stayed there. Joshua, a 6-year-old who died there at age 6, can often be heard speaking and appearing on EVPs.

Ghost Adventures featured this house, located near Dallas near Baker Hotel which is also believed to be haunted. Additionally, there are caves located within East Mountain where Native Americans would hide out.
