Bhangarh Fort
Bhangarh Fort has earned its place as one of the most haunted places in India through a number of legends. According to one such legend, entering at night will result in never leaving again; additionally it’s believed that you can hear pleas as darkness falls and can even hear cries for help as darkness rolls in.
Adventure seekers who violated fort rules to explore it have either not returned, or died under mysterious circumstances soon afterwards. Vigilance cameras have even captured doors opening and closing, files being extracted from drawers, and lights flashing intermittently – proof enough that someone was here unauthorized.
Kuldhara

Legend has it that this village used to be home to prosperous Paliwal Brahmins; however, their lives took an abrupt turn for the worse in 18th century when Diwan of Jaisalmer Salim Singh set his eyes on one of their daughter and threatened the villager with heavy taxes if they did not agree to his terms.
Ramoji Film City
Its unnerving atmosphere make this location one of India’s most haunted sites, once home to a wealthy couple until their yoga instructor killed and buried them there in their backyard. According to legend, their ghost may still haunt this property today.
Film City in Hyderabad was constructed on war sites occupied by Nizam sultans and is said to be haunted by ghosts of soldiers killed during battle. Bulbs often break, doors become jammed shut unexpectedly and staff members manning spotlights at high stands are often forcefully pushed by invisible spirits – with women particularly disturbed in this location.
Dow Hill
Kurseong’s Dow Hill may appear peaceful at first glance, yet within its picturesque landscape lies an ominous darkness which has earned it the distinction of India’s most haunted place. Famously known for its dense forests and mysterious “Death Road”, which cuts through these woods.
On top of this dark and foreboding hillock stands Victoria Boys School, which is said to exude an eerie energy similar to that of its surrounding forest. Locals have reported hearing loud whisperings and footsteps coming from within during winter months (December to March), as well as witnessing what they believe was a headless ghost marching towards them from behind!
D’Souza Chawl
Though this place appears beautiful during the daytime, at night it transforms into an eerie scene. People have reported hearing footsteps and witnessing a headless figure; hence it has made India’s list of haunted locations.
Mahim Chawl is said to be haunted by a ghostly presence: an elderly woman supposedly fell into a well and drowned, leaving behind her spirit which can often be seen roaming about at night around it and nearby areas. Though not harmful in any way, her ghost remains an unsettling presence that locals find disturbing.
Shaniwarwada Fort
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie ‘Baji Rao Mastani’ depicted this haunted place, making it one of India’s most haunted locations. Visitors report feeling sick, breathless and dizzy while hearing strange noises – particularly that of a female voice asking for transport! People visiting this spot report feeling dizzy as well as hearing strange sounds (including hearing the woman in white calling out for help! ).
Rumor has it that Maratha Empire ruler Bajirao I’s 17th century palace is haunted by Narayanrao, his murdered son who inherited his place on the throne and is said to haunt it with cries and shrills heard at night. It may even contain bones from Raghunath Rao who killed him because he didn’t like having him as King! According to legend, Raghunath Rao’s spirit may roam freely amongst the fort’s ruins with cries heard at night from Narayanrao himself!
