The Driskill Hotel is said to be haunted by the spirits of original owner Jesse Driskill, his jilted bride and even a young child. Guests have reported hearing footsteps, feeling their legs tingle and even witnessing ghostly figures at various points throughout their stay.
Driskill Hotel
The Driskill Hotel sits at the heart of Austin and houses many restless souls. Built by cattle baron Jesse Driskill in 1886, its history includes hosting Louis Armstrong concerts as well as President Lyndon Johnson and Lady Bird’s first date!
Today, The Driskill still hosts high society and political gatherings as well as being haunted by two former lovers who haunt its halls.
Room 525 of the hotel is said to be especially haunted, wherein lingers the ghost of a young girl who committed suicide by leaping out the window and leaping through it herself. She can sometimes be found walking mournfully down hallways of her former home dressed in Victorian garb.
Colonel Driskill’s spirit may still linger at the hotel; guests have reported sensing cigar smoke or seeing lights switch on and off by themselves. Colonel died only four years after opening this luxury establishment and some believe his spirit still lingers here.
White Rock Lake
Although some might claim the Lady of White Rock Lake is just an urban legend, too many reports of her sighting have surfaced for her to be easily written off as fiction. Indeed, recently this story made an appearance on a list of haunted bodies of water around the world–staging right alongside Loch Ness and Bermuda Triangle!
Story has it that one evening as they drove along the shores of White Rock Lake Park they saw an attractive girl ghost in a white dress from Neiman-Marcus standing by the roadside soaked and in need. They offered to give her a ride home but when they turned back around she had vanished leaving only damp spot behind in their back seat; giving them her address in East Dallas on Gaston Avenue before giving up altogether and then dissipating again into thin air – an incident passed on from generation to generation ever since in Dallas as well as beyond its borders.
